SCET - The Solution Lies with Us

Over recent times we at SCET have moved positivelyfrom the periphery of Scottish education to its very heart. Once againit is satisfying to look back at the many ways in which, during the pastyear, we have used our central position to spread our influence beneficiallyoutwards.

A Winning Team

It is pleasing to record the special recognition we have received fromtwo sources. At home we gained the esteemed Investors in People Award in December 1995. Internationally we attained exceptional successwhen our 5-14 Music CD-ROM was named the EMMA (European MultimediaAward) winner in the business/technical training category at a ceremonyin Frankfurt. Naturally we take pride in these achievements. We also findsatisfaction for another reason in the success of the 5-14 Music CD-ROM,which is designed for the non-specialist teacher. It is the perfect exampleof what we are all about - using our knowledge of learning techniques tointerpret the needs of the customer and come up with a practical solution. We are, quite simply, in the business of solutions.

Working with Others

Our skills in this area have been recognised at national level. We haveworked with the Scottish Office Education and Industry Department in producing Information Ethics , a guide for schools in creating a safe and ethicalinformation environment. SOEID has also engaged us to evaluate two Superhighways projects and the second pilot phase of the ILS (Integrated LearningSystems) initiative. We have been closely involved in setting up the first ACOT (Apple Classroom of Tomorrow) site at St Andrew's High Schoolin Kirkcaldy. We managed the selection of the site on behalf of Apple andSOEID and will have a continuing role in taking the project forward.

Solving the Problems

Our focus has therefore been on offering complete solutions to a widerange of customer needs, now and in the future. Responding to demand insome cases, anticipating it in others, we have moved forward on many frontsin an environment which has welcomed both our expertise and our marketorientation.
